Problem: In the early days of uterine artery embolization, there were two published cases of fibroids pedunculated (on a stalk) Independent of the uterus, causing inflammation in the abdomen that required surgery to remove the fibroid. However, I did not know if it was a common problem or rare. br Studio: Among 240 women who had UAE, 16 women had fibroids on a stalk on the outside of the uterus. The average size of fibroids was about 7 cm (3 inches) in diameter. The average width of the stem was 2.7 cm (1 inch) and 6 of the fibroids had a stem less than 2 cm wide. br Results: None of the 16 women had a pedunculated fibroid detachment as a result of the UAE. The average reduction in fibroid size was 39%, the same results have been published for other types of fibroids. br notes Dr. Parker: These results are very encouraging and will enable more women to the United Arab Emirates. The only problem with the study is that it is possible, indeed likely, that some women with large fibroids long, slender stems, not recommended for the United Arab Emirates in the first place. Therefore, the recommendation of the United Arab Emirates depend on the interpretation of magnetic resonance imaging for the interventional radiologist.
