BPA is a chemical that can potentially cause disease. He has been accused (among other things) to cause uterine fibroids, endometriosis, breast cancer, reduced sperm count, and increasing the risk of prostate cancer. Many challenge the charges, because studies that these effects are small or document are not repeated. But what most people agree is that BPA is an endocrine disruptor, a chemical that can affect the way hormones in the working bodies of some people. For this reason, if you can avoid, you probably should. br Canada has been at the forefront of the war against the BPA. In April 2008, the Canadian government classified as GAP quot; txicosquot; to human health and the environment. One of the reasons is that BPA can mimic the actions of estrogen and often EPS concentrations are much higher than normal levels of estrogen in the body (parts per billion compared to parts per trillion). But this accusation that there are over BPA in many products sold there estrogen in our bodies is not quite fair. BPA is not estrogen, that just looks like estrogen. And according to most studies, the biological effects of BPA are far from those of estrogen: not as potent as the natural hormone, and is often totally helpless. br So while it's fair to find these chemicals in our containers and our food, do not panic. There is always going to be another chemical or other quot; descubrimientoquot; from around the corner that makes us worry about what we are putting into our bodies or the bodies of our children. We should be asking the questions, scientists need to do research. But wait until the data dictates not to jump every time there's a new study published. If it appears that baby food in glass jars have been found repeatedly to BPA, then the source of the BPA must be removed. Until then, stay calm. Perhaps, however, is a good argument to try to find time to mash the bananas at home Dr. Cara Natterson br, a graduate of Harvard University and Johns Hopkins Medical School and author of quot; your child: head to toe, quot; is a pediatrician and mother of 2.
